St Peter’s Churchyard

snowy churchyardOur churchyard has been in existence for almost 200 years now and is a beautiful place of peace and tranquility.

Many people don’t realise that our churchyard extends to an acre and a quarter as it is hidden behind the main buildings but this ‘out of the way’ location only serves to remove the busyness of life and of the village, allowing the diverse wildlife to flourish and make it an oasis of Nature.

Our Oldest Headstones date back to the 1820s and with the popularity of tracing your family tree increasing with every new episode of the television programme,  ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’  more and  more people are visiting in the hope of finding the resting place of their ancestors.

Coupled with the regular visitors tending their family plots, the churchyard is quite a busy place.

If you are searching for a particular family headstone or plot and could use a little help, please contact our Church Administrator, Mrs Jane Tompsett on 01727 821148  and she will be pleased to offer any help possible.

A dedicated band of volunteers work hard to keep our churchyard a safe and attractive place to spend time in and you will often be greeted by one of their number as they work.

Sadly though, many families are unable to visit regularly and are upset that they cannot place fresh flowers or maintain family  graves as regularly as they would like and St Peter’s can help if  you find yourself in this situation.
