St Peter’s Churchyard
Our churchyard has been in existence for almost 200 years now and is a beautiful place of peace and tranquillity. Many people don’t realise that our churchyard extends to an acre and a quarter as it is hidden behind the main buildings but this ‘out of the way’ location only serves to remove the busyness of life and of the village, allowing the diverse wildlife to flourish and make it an oasis of Nature. Our oldest headstones date back to the 1820s and with the popularity of tracing your family tree increasing with every new episode of the television programme, ‘Who Do You Think You Are?‘ more and more people are visiting in the hope of finding the resting place of their ancestors. Coupled with the regular visitors tending their family plots, the churchyard is quite a busy place.
A dedicated band of volunteers work hard to keep our churchyard a safe and attractive place to spend time in and you will often be greeted by one of their number as they work. If you’d like to volunteer your help, we’d be very happy to hear from you
If you are searching for a particular family headstone or plot and could use a little help, please contact us at contact@stpeterslondoncolney.co.uk with details of who you are trying to trace and we will be pleased to offer any help possible. However, please note that searches in Registers carry a Statutory Fee which must be paid in advance of the search being carried out.
