We are your Parish church in London Colney and are one of three hundred and thirty five parishes that make up the Diocese of St Albans.

At almost two hundred years old, St Peter's has been serving the needs of London Colney for a long time and is proud to be able to continue to do so into the 21st Century.

We welcome everyone, whether to worship, to take part in events or simply if you are in need of a cup of tea and a listening ear. You can always contact one our Ministry team on 01727 568552.

Who We Are In Ministry

Whilst we await the appointment of a new Vicar, our Ministry team is made up of Revd Philip Green and our Lay Reader, Rosie Rawlinson. Together they bring a wide and varied leadership to our worship, together with a wealth of church and life experience that equips them to meet any Pastoral challenge that may present itself. Why not come along to one of our regular services? There are two held on Sundays - 8am and 10am, with a quieter midweek service at 10am on Wednesdays. You can contact us on 01727 568552 to arrange a call if you would like to speak to either Philip or Rosie personally.

Who We Are As Community

The one thing that really sets St Peter's Church apart is the real sense of community that hits you as soon as you walk through our doors. We fully understand that many different reasons and needs prompt someone to want to come to church but we also know that taking that first step can be an almost insurmountable challenge. Don't worry! The worst that anyone has to endure is a friendly smile and a warm welcome. The rest follows on at your own pace. We're all just fellow human beings, all equal and all with our own problems, joys and experiences, offering somewhere where we can come together and find a place to belong.

Who We Are As Volunteers

Like any church, St Peter's couldn't run without the help of people who are willing to give up some of their time to help keep our church operating efficiently. We run regular, informal social gatherings to help bring people together, take Home Communion to those who are housebound or too unwell to come to church or simply arrange visits if mobility is an ongoing problem. Children and young people aren't forgotten either and we have different groups providing Bible and life based teachings to differing ages, all in a 'non-churchy' setting. Our aim is to make these gatherings engaging and full of fun - after all, this is what makes sharing time together worthwhile!

what's your story

St Peter's Story

Revd Pat Jones likes to imagine that one of the walls at St Peter’s is transparent and urges us all to do the same. Church shouldn’t take place behind closed doors – God, the Bible and the Gospels are for everyone, whether they are sitting in the pews or not.

So our story is really about people – you, in fact. It doesn’t matter who you are, your age, what job you do, whether you are retired, married, single, bereaved, between jobs or whether your circumstances are dictated by health problems. Everyone who comes through the doors – for whatever reason – is welcomed and each one is motivated to come by their own unique circumstances.

St Peter’s cares about everyone and anyone and would like to hear your story too. So why not come along and tell us what it is?

our vision at st peters london colney

Our Vision and Identity

Our vision is a simple one – to spread the Good News of the Gospels. Of course, in the 21st Century, not everyone feels that God has relevance in their lives but here’s the thing – He most certainly does.

Everyone will tell you that they have a spiritual side to their character and they are right. Sales of self-help books top the best sellers lists as people search for the true meaning to their lives. Healing crystals, Guardian Angels, Earth Angels – even mindfulness – all point towards the real pull of ‘other worldliness’ that almost everyone feels.

St Peter’s knows this and has a vision of ending this search by helping bring clarity to the Big Questions. Come and challenge us to bring that clarity into your life – after all, what have you got to lose?

Knowing Jesus & Making Jesus Known

What could be more important to a church than knowing Jesus and making Him known to those around us?

That’s not so easily done though. People lead busy lives – they don’t have time to learn about a man who died over two thousand years ago and anyway, isn’t Jesus just a character in a fairy story?

No!

Let’s take the second part of the heading first – Making Jesus Known. The best way to do this, for us, is to live our lives in the way that the Bible teaches us and this is what we strive to do. It’s not always easy but little by little and by recalling how Jesus urges us to live, we can demonstrate how our knowledge of Jesus makes a real difference in our personal lives and how we treat those around us.

Once we can show how our own lives are enhanced, hopefully others will want to know the secret and that’s when the opportunity to help other people know Jesus arises. It’s a self-perpetuating circle, where everyone is a winner.

Knowing Jesus and making Him known. It’s what we aim to do. Come and join us this Sunday  –  no cost, no obligation but a real chance to gain something good. There’s tea and biscuits after the service too 😉
